Moscow. (21/ 08/ 2006, Vladimir Dedenevsky, RIA Novosti) .
TMOSCOW, September 1 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Bolshoi theater opens its 231st season with a performance of a new version of Tchaikovsky's famous lyric opera.
The Eugene Onegin opera was first performed at the Bolshoi in 1881, with the composer, Piotr Illych Tchaikovsky as conductor. Since then, the opera has been staged at the theater 2,251 times.
The new version was produced by the talented contemporary director, Dmitry Chernyakov.
"I wanted the performance to be as sincere and profound as possible," Chernyakov said.
The performance will feature a star-studded cast, including the young Russian soprano Tatyana Monogarova and tenor Andrei Dunayev. RIA Novosti
