Moscow to host 2007/2008 UEFA Champions League final
MOSCOW, October 4 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow will host the 2007/2008 UEFA Champions League final, a source in the Russian Football Union said Wednesday. He said the executive committee of UEFA, European football's governing body, made its final decision earlier in the day in Ljubljana (Slovenia). Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium beat out the competition from several other cities, including Seville, London, Rome and Berlin, to host the prestigious event. Russia's soccer chief, Vitaly Mutko, earlier said that hosting the final of Europe's top soccer competition was very important for Russia, which is making a great effort to improve its position in world soccer. "[Hosting] the Champions League final is part of a plan to develop Russian soccer over the next 10 years," he said. RIA Novosti
