Crackdown on gambling places to continue in Moscow ? mayor
MOSCOW, October 12 (Itar-Tass) - Over 1,500 gambling centres will be closed in Moscow by the end of this year, Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said.
He told reporters on Thursday that the reduction of numbers of gambling places became possible after the city parliament passed a law on gambling business last year.
?A lack of a federal law allowed making such law in the capital. We have cleared out gammbling places in the capital on its basis. As a result of such cleaning, more than 1,500 gambling establishments have been closed,? Luzhkov said.
He added that he did not know ?what a law on gambling business that is being developed at present will be like?.
?But there is no such outrage in any country, and this is impermissible,? Luzhkov said, referring to ubiquitous gambling places in Moscow.
The city government earlier said that 315 more gambling clubs would be closed in Moscow by the end of the year, leaving in place 540 casinos and gambling rooms.
