Moscow metro commissions jubilee train Krasnaya Strela
MOSCOW, October 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Moscow metro has commissioned a new train Krasnaya Strela on Monday named after its celebrated namesake ? the Krasnaya Strela fast rail train that runs between Moscow and St. Petersburg and which is celebrating its 75th anniversary now.
Vice- premier of the Russian government Alexander Zhukov, who attended the ceremonial event, said that every citizen of Moscow and St. Petersburg should have warm reminiscences connected with the Krasnaya Strela."
Vladimir Yakunin, President of the Russian Railways Company, said the Russian Railways was happy to cooperate with Moscow metro. "It is grand that the 75th jubilee of the high class fast passenger train has been celebrated in such a way. Let this metro train in Moscow metro be a reminder of painstaking efforts made by railway workers to organize railway service, particularly in years of World War II," Yakunin said.
The Krasnaya Strela, that runs on Sokolniki (red) metro line, is decorated in red and yellow colors used for the decoration of its first rail namesake. It has its name Krasnaya Strela and figures 75 painted on the train's side. There are many placards inside the metro train devoted to the history of the historical rail train, and even an exposition of unique archive documents and rare photographs.
The first Soviet high-class fast train service Moscow- Leningrad was opened in 1931.
The new metro train Krasnaya Strela and a museum opened aboard is part of a big jubilee program titled "Linking the Cities' Hearts" that continues in Moscow and St. Petersburg throughout 2006.
