Moscow top theatrical prize to be awarded to this year laureates
MOSCOW, June 17 (Itar-Tass) - Moscow?s top annual theatrical prize ? the Crystal Turandot ? will be awarded to this year laureates at the Tretyakov Picture Gallery on Sunday.
The prize named after the main character of the famous fairy-tale by Carlo Gocci ?Princess Turandot? was instituted in 1991. It is awarded only to Moscow theatres and actors. People?s Artist of the USSR Yulia Borisova who played the role of Princess Turandot at Moscow?s Vakhtangov Theatre for many years was the first actress to win that prize.
People?s Artist of Russia Mikhail Derzhavin has won the Crystal Turandot in the ?Valorous Service to the Theatre? nomination. Derzhavin has worked for the Moscow Satire Theatre for 38 years, theatre historian Boris Belenky told Itar-Tass.
The prize will also be awarded for the best male and female roles, the best debut, the best scenography, the best stage direction, the best play of the season. Two actresses ? of different age, school and manner of playing ? will receive the award in the ?best female role? nomination.
By tradition, all the laureates will receive crystal statuettes of Princess Turandot.
